It was always customary for Cuban Rum-Makers, or maestros roneros, to drink extra aged rums at the Havana Club distillery, but it was our present-day Senior Master Rum-Maker, Don Jose Navarro, who decided to share this tradition with the world.
Putting to use the priceless knowledge and skills passed down to him from previous generations, he blended and aged his rum multiple times to achieve a very complex spirit with a breadth of intense flavours.
It still takes more than 14 years to craft a bottle of Havana Club 7 Year Old rum, because the year displayed on our label is actually the minimum age of any rum used for blending, not the oldest or average. This means the youngest drop of rum in a bottle of Havana Club 7 Year Old rum is indeed 7 years old, but often includes rums that are 10 years or older. This, combined with a Cuban climate that helps speed the ageing process, makes for a truly exceptional rum, that is comparable to much older spirits.
Some rums were made to be mixed – Havana Club 7 Year Old was made to be savoured, and is best enjoyed neat, or on ice.
Havana Club 7 Year Old has a rich and clear mahogany colour.
Havana Club 7 Year Old has an outstanding, exquisite breadth of aromas, with intense and complex notes of cocoa, vanilla, cedar, sweet tobacco and lush tropical fruits.
Havana Club 7 Year Old is an exceptionally smooth rum, exhibiting a balanced, yet complex palate of warm cocoa, vanilla, sugarcane, chestnut and caramelised tropical fruit flavours complemented by firm, smooth oak and rich brown spice.
The finish is intense, while round and smooth, as complex aged notes combine with crispness reminiscent of its sugarcane origins.
